Years 5 and 4 School Trip to Nethercott Farm 20th - 24th September 2021
Some of our Year 5's and 4's are going on the 20th September 2021 for a week of farming magic to Nethercott Farm in Devon. The trip will be led by our Assistant Principal, Mrs Cushing and additional staff members. The children will stay on the farm in dormitory accommodation for 4 nights, until Friday 24th September 2021.
Nethercott is the home of Farms for City Children, a charity run farm which provides pupils from cities with an experience of living and working as farmers. The charity was founded by Michael Morpurgo, the children's author and Claire, his wife, in the 1970's. Since then, children from all over the UK have been enjoying trips to work as farmers for a week.
It is really a once in a lifetime opportunity and our last Harris Primary Academy Orpington trip to Treginnis Farm, another of the charity's farms, in October 2019 was a huge success.
We still have a number of spaces for pupils in Years 5 and 4 to take-up. The trip costs are around £270 for a week but if you have financial hardship we can take staggered payments until May 2022 and offer a significant subsidy. No one should be prevented from their child attending because of cost. The trip is a unique experience and it would be heart breaking to have empty spaces. Allergies too are no problem as all needs and diets can be met and catered for.
The children were really excited when we discussed the trip, so we would want you all to be able to confidently send your child, should they wish to go.
If you are interested and need more information then please call the Academy on 01689 830383 and ask to speak to Mrs Southern, Family Worker, or Ms Ebanks, Office Manager. We very much look forward to hearing from you.
