Music
Music is taught every week throughout Harris Primary Academy Orpington, by a specialist teacher who encourages the children to have an active engagement with Music.
Our music curriculum is in line with the new National Curriculum and is adapted to each class to ensure children learn Music in a meaningful context. There are four main areas of learning, performing, composing, transcribing and describing, within which all of our lessons take a main focus ensuring that the curriculum is broad and balanced.
As the children progress through the school, they learn the Ukulele with their class, as well as using a wide range of tuned and untuned percussion instruments.
The children have several opportunities to perform during their time at HPAO, including at Christmas, Spring concerts and Year 6 productions, as well as assemblies and special occasions.
There is also the opportunity for children to learn an instrument at HPAO, through our links with BYMT. We currently have children learning the piano and guitar. Other instruments may be available. If you would like more information regarding individual or small group lessons, please ask.
